FLAIR P5: a reliable partner

Since its delivery in 2018 to ophthalmologist Dr Waimbe Wahamu in Papua New Guinea, the FLAIR P5 portable surgical microscope has had an impressive track record. With over 2500 successful cataract surgeries performed as part of outreach programmes, Dr Wahamu has used this device to help numerous eye patients in extremely remote communities regain their sight.

Even renowned ophthalmologists such as Dr Jacob Prabhakar from Ruby Nelson Memorial Hospital in India have taken a liking to this microscope. By using the P5 in the Togoba High Volume Cataract Camp in the Western Highlands Province and in Minj in the Jiwaka Province in Papua New Guinea, Dr Prabhakar has been able to operate on up to 200-300 cataract cases per day in collaboration with Dr Wahamu and local eye care workers.

The durability of this FLAIR P5 is a hallmark of the reliability and robustness of FLAIR microscopes in demanding environments. Despite adverse conditions and high utilisation, it has proven to be a reliable partner for Dr Wahamu and his team. Its robust design, portability and ability to work in extreme conditions make it an indispensable tool in ophthalmology.

Thanks to the FLAIR P5, thousands of people have regained hope and a better life. Its usefulness and versatility have been proven in the most remote communities of Papua New Guinea, and its durability makes it a long-term investment in the health of the community.
